Written into Being ✧ How a Scripting Practice Can Change Your Life
The most vital manifestation practice that you can start TODAY
We all know what manifestation is.
You’ve at least heard of The Secret.
Maybe you’ve downloaded 1 or 100 workshops.
You’ve done the meditations, listened to the podcasts.
Sometimes, it works.
You get that job, that date, that opportunity –
and you feel powerful.
Other times, it simply doesn’t.
Your belief in your magick and magnetism wanes,
and you’re left feeling out of control.
The idea that you can shape your reality with your intention, your will, and your aligned actions is enticing to say the least.
It’s also scientifically supported.
And this scientific reasoning actually clearly defines why you typically can’t just light a candle, set an intention, and move on with your day.
I want to share some of the tangible, actual facts about manifesting your reality, and then I’ll show you how adopting a scripting process is the first step in completely changing your life.
Why (and How) Scripting Works ✧
Recently, I was working through a free resource from Kathrin Zenkina of Manifestation Babe, and I was reminded of the science that supports this work.
There is something called the Reticular Activating System in the brain that is essentially the filtration system of the mind…Instead of receiving and taking in every single bit of information and data that comes in from reality, the mind automatically deletes, distorts and generalizes what’s unnecessary and unrelated to avoid overwhelm…The RAS filters your reality based on what you spend the most time focusing on. - KZ
So in this way, if you spend your time focusing on the fact that your dreams still haven’t come true, or being burdened by a mundane circumstance that is completely out of alignment with what you desire for yourself, a shift needs to occur.
That’s where scripting comes in.
Scripting is the process of writing out, in as much depth as you wish, the dreams you would like to come true as if they’re already happening.
So if you’re manifesting a promotion at your job, you wouldn’t write, “I hope I get that promotion next month,” or even, “I get promoted next month.”
Instead, you would ground that vision into the present moment, and write something like, “every day since I got promoted, I wake up feeling so grateful for all of the ways my new position supports my life” – and if you’re really feeling it, create a list of all the ways that promotion has already improved your life.
We’ll talk more about some of my guidelines for scripting in a minute, but for now, let’s get into why this works.
Scripting engages your Reticular Activating System – a network in the brainstem that affects consciousness, attention, alertness, and even sleep cycles – and actually primes your brain to find evidence that your dreams are already coming true.
Scripting also helps to prepare the nervous system to hold what it is you are manifesting.
We’ve all heard the stories of lottery winners who immediately burn through all their new-found wealth – and it’s because even though they desired that money (they went out and bought the ticket with the hope of winning it, and maybe even spoke or prayed it into existence), they were not prepared to have the money.
To be able to experience your fully-formed, actualized dreams in your waking life in a sustaining and enduring way, you first have to create the version of your mind-body-spirit relationship that can truly hold them. Without doubt, fear, or repulsion.
Scripting is a powerful method of preparing your nervous system, and your life, to allow your dreams to root into reality. Immersing yourself in a scripting practice plays on the fact that your brain can’t actually tell the difference between imagination, perception, and reality.
That’s why we cry when our favorite characters die, and why scripting does so much heavy lifting for us when we’re manifesting!
Finally, scripting plays on the non-linear nature of time. We only experience time in a linear fashion because we are incarnated in a dense plane of being, and in this dimensional reality, we are subscribed to a linear time model (whether that’s working Monday-Friday, or waking up to start the day at 7am each morning). When we script, we play into a more timeless nature by rooting everything into the present moment.
What You Need to Start Scripting ✧
To get started on your scripting journey, you only truly need three things: a notebook, a writing utensil, and the time and space to vision. However, there are a few other allies that are ready to support you in your journey.
Choosing Your Notebook & Writing Utensil
Maybe it’s just the office-supply-freak in me, but I love selecting the tools I use for scripting and magickal workings in general. You can technically script any time, any where, on any slip or scrap of paper you can find, with any pen that has the juice.
But I think there’s some distinct magick in selecting your ritual tools.
Go to the store, or pull up your preferred online shopping site, and close your eyes for 2 breaths. On the first breath, exhale any part of you, any sliver of energy that believes you cannot shift your reality. On the second breath, inhale the truth that your Highest Self knows without a doubt: you are a conscious creator in this lifetime, and you have the power to live the life of your dreams. Activate your connection to your highest self. Open your eyes, and choose the journal that feels most aligned with the version of you that already has everything you want.
The notebook you choose should only be used for your scripting practice, so if you have any other journaling practices, keep those writings in another journal. This holds the container for your manifestations to come through. (You don’t want to be processing the nitty-gritty of an argument in the same journal that you’re manifesting within.)
Then, choose the writing utensil to match the vibe, or simply your favorite one. That one pen whose ink flows so luxuriously and never skips. (I personally prefer a glitter gel pen moment.)
Add a Little Ritual with a Candle
I think this practice can be enriched by utilizing the creative power of the flame. Invite this in by choosing a long-burning candle (like a seven-day candle from your local witch shop). Before you begin your scripting practice, light the candle. When you finish writing, close your eyes, visualize the completion of everything you’ve written, and blow the candle out. Reuse the same candle until it can no longer be lit. When the candle burns all the way down, thank the flame for supporting you in bringing your desires to light and to life, state, “It is done. So it is."
Crystal Allies for the Journey
There are so many crystals that are ready to aid you in your scripting practice, and truly, the list of recommendations will vary based on what exactly you’re trying to manifest into your life. Here is a starter list of stones, and a few of their associations, to help you call in support from the crystalline beings:
Citrine: Pure manifestation energy. The sun in crystal form. Activator of divine will. Confidence.
Pyrite: Encourages and lights the way for aligned action. Boundaries and protections that support your dreams.
Green Aventurine: Road-opening. Abundance codes. Great for manifesting opportunities and increasing revenue.
Clear Quartz: Can hold the energy of any intention. Hold in the palm of your right hand to imbue it with an intention. Hold in the palm of your left hand to receive that energy.
Black Tourmaline: Boundaries to protect and support your dreaming. Helps redistribute imbalanced energy in the body. Clears stagnation.
Selenite: Can keep the entire crystal team cleansed. Transmute negativity or heaviness. Increase intuition and vision.
The Soundtrack to Your Scripting
One thing about me: I love setting the atmosphere. You may want to listen to subliminals, affirmations, binaural beats, instrumentals, or Solfeggio frequencies while you script. Here is a playlist in heavy rotation in our household.
The Basics of Scripting ✧
I’m teaching more about this in my next masterclass: The Art of Manifestation, so for today, let’s start with my top three best practices for scripting:
1. Write everything in present (or sometimes past) tense.
Although you want to root everything into a present state of being when you’re scripting, sometimes it is effective to make use of the past tense. In my previous example, I recommended the statement: “every day since I got promoted, I wake up feeling so grateful for all of the ways my new position supports my life”
In this statement, I used the past tense for the actual receiving of the promotion. That’s done. I got it! Woohoo.
I used the present tense for what I’m feeling now that I am promoted. Which brings me to my next point:
2. Lean into your emotions.
Your feelings are a portal into your desired reality. And as Danielle Laporte (The Desire Map) teaches, our core desired feelings provide the map for making our dreams come true. Embody the version of yourself that has already received what you’re manifesting – how does it make you feel? This helps us stay on track and on target with our manifestations.
To Danielle’s point, sometimes the promotion doesn’t make us feel the way we expected. Sometimes the promotion makes us feel worse, actually. So keeping these tethers to our core desired feelings in our scripting can help us manifest the highest outcome (the reality where our core desired feelings are actually rooted in our emotional landscape), not the reality where we have this Tangible Circumstance that we’ve manifested but zero sense of fulfillment.
3. Re-read and re-write your scripts.
Script every day, even if it’s just a sentence. Read back over your scripts from days, weeks, months prior, and watch them come true! Read them out loud. Anchor them into your reality. Alter and edit them as you see fit. Expand on them. What happens next? And after that? And after that?
Let’s take this wisdom deeper.
This is one of the main practices we’ll be discussing in my upcoming masterclass, The Art of Manifestation.
I will share about three manifestation practices that build on one another to create a beautiful baseline for weaving your dreams into reality: first Scripting, then Sigils, and finally, Candle Magick.
In this two-hour masterclass on Thursday, January 22 at 7pm eastern, we will cover:
✧ Manifestation Mindset: Tools & Anchor Points for the Journey
✧ Creating Clarity: Scripting Your Dreams
✧ Invoking Your Power: Sigil Creation
✧ Stoking the Flame: Candle Magick
